Sienblue Pottery
studio
Welcome. As of 2009, my very own long awaited pottery studio was set up in a place along the south coast of Australia's NSW: The Sienblue Pottery. It's tiny. But I love it.So it's easy to get up at the crack of dawn to start work and easier still to work throughout the day, or begin a day-long firing, or checking on pieces that need to dry at various stages for trimming. On the days I am not teaching, I work up to ten hours either throwing and handbuilding, trimming and refining work later on in the day. My studio is very small and doesn't have a sink so I fill several buckets with water to use. I've never used much water in my work, so 'no sink' is OK. When I'm done with them I'll leave the one with clay particles in the garage to dry out so that I'm not pouring clay down the garden drain while the other buckets don't have much clay particles and I can just pour them onto our plants . . . or I reuse the liquid to recycle clay scraps. One can have unpredictable fun with clay scraps;)My studio is also attached to my garage so its easy to unload supplies when needed. I do what I can to go easy on my wee back.I also made sure we tiled the floor so that cleaning up would be easy. The walls are made from reclaimed solid redwood French doors from a local hardware store. Tables and shelving are made by yours truly.I've posted pictures of my studio on my blog so check it out if you're curious about this space. My dream for it is to eventually put up some more shelving, add a mural that is currently sitting in my head, and a garden of its own just outside the French doors . . .Alas, I couldn't ask for more since every potter who is lucky enough to have their own studio knows the effort and time that goes into setting one up. Baby steps ahoy!
